Our 2026 Fundraising Partnership with Feed-Well Fridges

Burkett Farm is pleased to announce a comprehensive fundraising partnership with Feed-Well Fridges, a nonprofit expanding food security and access while reducing food waste across Chatham County and beyond.

Founded and led by chef Sera Cuni and Susan White, Feed-Well Fridges currently operates six free community refrigerators in Pittsboro, Siler City, and surrounding Chatham County communities. These refrigerators provide 24/7 access to fresh, prepared meals and groceries—no questions asked, no appointments required.

A New Model for Food Access

Community fridges offer a barrier-free approach to food distribution. Strategically placed in public spaces and stocked with free food available to anyone, these refrigerators eliminate common obstacles to accessing nutrition assistance. The anonymous, round-the-clock availability serves individuals who may face scheduling conflicts or stigma associated with traditional food pantries.

While some community fridge models rely on individuals for stocking the fridges directly, Feed-Well Fridges functions as a micro food hub, sourcing provisions from local farms, grocery stores, and restaurants—often rescuing food that would otherwise be discarded. The organization's dedicated team transforms these donations into nutritious resources: chef-prepared meals packaged in ready-to-eat containers, single-portion fresh ingredients, and quality groceries. All items are carefully labeled, dated, and inspected for freshness and safety before volunteers distribute them to refrigerator locations and conduct regular inventory and cleaning.

Since launching in 2023, Feed-Well Fridges has distributed more than 79,000 meals through its fridges. The organization is poised for significant expansion in 2026 and beyond through a partnership with Goodwill Industries of Eastern North Carolina. Goodwill has committed to purchasing 51 fridges that will be placed in front of every single one of the thrift stores from Wake, Durham, Chatham and counties to the east coast. Feed-Well is also working toward securing a larger commercial kitchen to enhance its capacity for receiving, processing, and distributing food donations.

Through this collaboration, Burkett Farm will direct all proceeds from food and flower sales to Feed-Well Fridges. This includes produce distributed to local restaurants and flowers sold to florists and retail partners. Feed-Well Fridges will also serve as the designated beneficiary for select on-farm events throughout 2026. Additionally, Burkett Farm will contribute raw produce directly to the organization's operations.
