Volunteering FAQs

What kind of tasks will I perform as a volunteer?

All depends on the time of year and size of group at the farm on any given day.  Here is a snapshot of tasks that you may participate in:

  • Transplanting

  • Seeding

  • Weeding

  • Harvesting

  • Mulching

  • Building new planting beds

What should I wear?

Close-toed shoes are a requirement on the farm. Dress accordingly based on weather (i.e. hat and sunglasses, rain coat, layers of clothing that will get soiled). If you have sensitive skin, consider pants and long sleeves to avoid sun exposure or irritation from plant contact.

What should I bring?

We will provide all necessary tools for assigned farm tasks. You should bring a refillable water bottle and sunscreen. If you have medical conditions such as asthma or bee allergies, please let us know immediately, and bring any medications that you have been prescribed for these conditions (such as an inhaler or an Epipen).

What is the age requirement for volunteers?

Individual volunteers must be at least 18 years of age. We allow minors above the age of 12 to volunteer if they are with a parent or guardian.

What happens in inclement weather?

Volunteers may be outside in light rain; please check the forecast and dress accordingly. In the event of forecasted heavy rain or lightening in the area, volunteers will be contacted to cancel the event.

Can I bring a group to volunteer? How many people can I bring?

We love to host groups! In the past we have hosted corporate groups, field trips, and other student groups. Please send us an email to set up a group event. To provide an optimal farm experience, we limit volunteer groups to 20 people at a time and require a minimum of 7 days notice from the time the event is confirmed.

Can I volunteer on a weekend?

Our farm’s operating hours are Monday through Friday, so unfortunately we aren’t able to accommodate regular weekend volunteer shifts at this time. We will occasionally host Saturday events, including community “work and learn” days. Check our Events page for upcoming opportunities.
