We’ve been lucky enough to know the Kwon family - matriarch Soohee, and her daughters Sinae and Jin Yi - for years now and every fall, just as the cabbage reaches its peak, they come to the farm to make kimchi with us.
Soohee, the family matriarch who grew up in South Korea and emigrated to North Carolina in 1981, has been making kimchi since she was a little girl. Now, she has passed the tradition on to her daughter, Sinae. For the Kwons, it’s not just about making the kimchi; the task is part of a communal act of coming together to connect with where our food comes from and the food traditions that bring us together.
This year, we’re excited to open up this experience to you: join the Kwons here at the farm for a morning of making kimchi. After we’re finished, we’ll enjoy some Korean snacks prepared by the family. You’ll head home with your own jar of kimchi, and a full belly.
Tickets for this event are extremely limited, and include a donation of $50 to Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, our food bank partner of more than 10 years.
