Wastewater Treatment System
Septic system installation during construction.
Current site of septic system. The area is planted with wildflowers and other native plants to support pollinator habitats.
A unique, on-site wastewater treatment utility allows us to re-use the water supply at Burkett Farm for drip irrigation needs.
Waste water from slot drains, sinks, and toilets is piped into the wastewater treatment system.
First it goes into a solid separator (ie grease trap); solids sink down, grease floats.
Effluent and blackwater moves on to a four-stage E-Z Treat digestion tank (septic system) that treats the water
At the end of that loop, the water that comes out is deemed eligible for drip irrigation, and is pumped out to the pasture. Any water not used is pumped back into the wastewater system, creating a closed loop
This is the first commercial use of this system that’s not in a hog lagoon; it required approvals from city, county, state, and EPA. It is inspected monthly by a licensed wastewater operator and permitted through Wake County.
